Our History

In 2009, seeing a remarkable opportunity for growth in its logistics operations, Dunavant sold its cotton trading operation to Allenberg Cotton, part of Louis Dreyfus Commodities. The company entered a remarkable period of reinvention, establishing it as a dominant force in the global logistics industry as it used its expertise with cotton to move a limitless variety of goods, items, and materials around the planet.

Rooted in decades of superior customer service and effective supply chain innovations, Dunavant is leading the logistics industry forward. We know that your bottom line is only as strong as your ability to bring your goods to an increasingly global, connected marketplace. Fifty years of delivering superior logistics solutions has given Dunavant Logistics the experience and ingenuity we need to be your company’s most effective logistics and transportation partner.

Dunavant entered the drayage business at the end of 2010, acquiring a majority interest in Houston-based Trans Gulf Transportation and partnering with its president, Billy Keys. Dunavant Trans Gulf Transportation, LLC has terminals located near both the Port of Houston and rail terminals, and has expanded to the Dallas area. Dunavant Trans Gulf Transportation utilizes a fleet of trucks handling local, regional and distance Intermodal/drayage service.

A few months later, Dunavant acquired Sea Lane Express. Established in 1979, Sea Lane Express has more than 30 years of experience in transportation, shipping, container storage, drayage, port operations and logistics throughout the Southeast and along the East Coast. With terminal operations in intermodal and port cities including Atlanta and Savannah, GA; Norfolk, VA; Charleston, SC; Charlotte and Wilmington, NC; and Nashville, TN, Dunavant Sea Lane Express has many advantages over other trucking and drayage operators.

In addition, the company has invested in the chassis business by establishing Dunavant Logistics Leasing, LLC to provide standard and specialty chassis.

Throughout every step forward in our evolution, the original elements that made our family business the most successful cotton traders in the world have endured: integrity and dedication to service that earns our customers’ trust every day with every transaction. Our strategic approach to innovation and technology helps our customers meet their needs faster, more efficiently, and more reliably. A passion for providing solutions allows us to move confidently into new markets around the world without sacrificing the full attention that every customer deserves.
