Several lumber mills and lumber exporters located in the interior part of the U.S. needed a process to ship heavier weights per container to fulfill the requirements of their customers and lower shipping charges.
Dunavant developed a program for dray operations using ultra-light chassis with day cabs, as well as obtaining overweight permits where available and required. These solutions provided an increased load factor from 44,500 lbs. to 47,000 lbs. using ultra-light chassis, and up to 50,000 lbs. with overweight permits.
These solutions increased the total weights per container shipped, therefore reducing the total shipping costs. This process also allowed the shippers to fulfill the complete orders to their overseas customers in a single shipment, greatly reducing their expenses.
